Grapefruit are a subtropical citrus tree.  They have a bitter tasting, to sweet-tasting, fruit which was originally named the “forbidden fruit” of the island of Barbados.

Grapefruit trees are dark colored, evergreen trees that usually grow 15-20 feet tall.

Grapefruit leaves are dark green, long and thin. When they blossom, they produce white, sweet smelling armoatic, grapefruit blossoms that are four-petaled flowers.

Grapefruit has a yellow-orange skin and largely oblate. The inside of a grapefruit is segmented and acidic, varying in color. the most popular varieties are White Grapefruit, Pink Grapefruit, and Redish/Pink Grapefruit with varying degrees of seeds and sweetness.

In 1929, the U.S. “Ruby Red” varieties (of the Redblush variety) received the first ever grapefruit patent.

Grapefruit and citrus lovers have been rejoicing and thankful ever since!
