The Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plant is a stunning Canna Lily with a short and sturdy growth pattern, dark purple leaves with deep green streaks, and wide petal blooms in a soft but rich peach shade. Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants will reach heights of about 22-inches, which is much shorter than other Cannas that grow to 4-feet tall. Their smaller stature and unique foliage color will create an exotic look for any garden or patio.
Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants are not only handsome, but they still grow edible shoots, leaves, and rhizomes. They are suggested for in-ground planting within USDA Zones 7 to 12, or for growing in pots in Zones 4 to 12. The deep maroon or purple-red plants make a great contrast to a garden of green. Plant these tropical standouts under taller plants like ginger or bananas, or as the center specimens in a bed surrounded with low-growing herbs, and add unique color to the edible landscape.

New Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants are grown from seeds or from rhizomes. In colder locations, store rhizomes in a dark, dry location with good airflow, and plant in spring to have Cannas blooming every summer. Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants will grow in partial shade, but for the most blooms plant them in full sun. They also like water, and do best when soil is always moist.
Start Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plant seeds in early spring in four-inch nursery pots and good potting soil. Keep the potting soil damp until sprouts appear. Water the new plants one a week until you see white roots at the pot’s drain holes. When roots appear at the drainage holes plant the new Cannas in the ground or in larger pots. Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plant Uses & Harvesting
Like other Cannas, Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants have shoots, leaves, and roots that can be eaten. New shoots are eaten raw or steamed, leaves are used to wrap fish or meats and then cooked, and roots are baked or boiled until the flesh is tender. In ancient Peru, and to this day in some areas, Canna roots are baked in outdoor ovens for as long as twelve hours. However, boiling the unpeeled rhizomes for thirty minutes to an hour, depending on root size, is enough to make the flesh tender and ready to eat.
Let Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants grow for at least one year before harvesting the roots. To get the biggest rhizomes, dig up the tallest plant sections, in much the same way you would when harvesting ginger roots. Cook harvested Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plant roots right away, and only store rhizomes you intend to allow to dry for planting the next season.
Advice
Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants love water, and it is best to water them at least once a week. If the soil becomes dry to one inch deep, water them with a slow weeping method until soil is damp around the plant base. Mulch can also help retain soil moisture. Mulch Cannasol® Happy Wilma PBR Canna Lily Plants with raked leaves, grass clippings, shredded bark, wood chips, or straw. You can also use trimmed Canna leaves and stems as mulch, or for adding to compost.

However, leaving the flowers will allow seedpods and, eventually, viable seeds to form. Collect seeds once the fuzzy seed pods have turned brown and dried on the plant.
